The UT Tower will be bathed in burnt orange lighting with the number "1" lit on each side the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 15 in recognition of The University of Texas Women's Volleyball National Championship. Fans are encouraged to show up at approximately 7:15 p.m. to greet the team as they take their official photos.
Per UT tradition, the campus landmark is lit in burnt orange from from top to bottom with the number "1" lit on all four sides when a University of Texas athletics team wins a NCAA team championship.
The Texas Volleyball team earned a decisive 3-0 sweep against the Oregon Ducks on Dec. 15 at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky., to earn the program's third national championship and second NCAA title. It was the Longhorns' first national title since 1988.
Bailey Webster led with 14 kills as she earned most outstanding player honors for the tournament. Junior setter Hannah Allison guided the UT offense to a .438 hitting performance as Haley Eckerman added 12 kills. The Longhorns out-blocked the Ducks by a 15-1 margin!
Coach Jerritt Elliott was also named the 2012 AVCA Division I National Coach of the Year, his first national honor while coaching at Texas.
