Hall named South Central Region Athlete of the Year

NEW ORLEANS – Texas harrier Marielle Hall received U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Region Athlete of the Year honors for the 2012 cross country season, the USTFCCCA announced this week, as voted by Division I coaches. A junior from Haddonfield, N.J., Hall won the South Central in 20:30 last Friday in Fayetteville, Ark., nearly five seconds ahead of teammate Sara Sutherland. It marked the first time a Longhorn has won the regional crown. Hall previously placed sixth at a competitive Big 12 Championships meet in October and won the Grass Routes Run Festival in Austin earlier this fall. Louisville, Ky., will host the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Saturday at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park. The women’s race is slated to begin at 11 a.m. Central, followed by the men’s at 12:15 p.m. A live webcast of the championships will be broadcast on NCAA.com.
