Women's Cross Country ranked No. 26 in 2012 USTFCCCA preseason poll

Aug. 28, 2012

NEW ORLEANS - The Texas Women's Cross Country team earned a No. 26 national ranking, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced today with the release of its 2012 preseason poll.  The USTFCCCA also ranked Texas second in the South Central Region.

In 2011, Texas was ranked as high as 12th nationally.  The Longhorns qualified for the NCAA Championships in both of the last two seasons, having earned a team spot in 2010 for the first times since 2003.  UT returns five of seven members of its squad from the 2011 NCAA Championships, four of whom also ran at 2010 NCAAs.  Texas placed second at the 2011 South Central Regional Championships with four 2012 returnees finishing in the top-25 to earn USTFCCCA All-Region honors and was also second at last year's Big 12 Championships.

The Longhorns' 2012 schedule includes racing in the Los Angeles XC Invite (Sept. 21) and the Rogue Grass Routes Festival in Austin (Sept. 29).  Texas will split its squad on Oct. 13 for the Concordia Invitational in Cedar Park, Texas, and the Pre-Nationals meet in Louisville, Ky., before hosting the Big 12 Championships on Oct. 27.  The NCAA South Central Regional Championships will be held Nov. 9 in Fayetteville, Ark., and the NCAA Championships will take place Nov. 17 in Louisville.

UT will open the season with a race against UTSA on Saturday in Austin.
