Carter finishes sixth in shot put at World Championships

BERLIN -- Former Longhorn Michelle Carter finished sixth in the women's shot put final Saturday evening at the 12th IAAF World Track & Field Championships. Carter, competing for the United States, recorded a toss of 18.96m on her third throw of the final heat. Carter, the 2009 U.S. Outdoor Shot Put champion, earned a spot in the finals with a throw of 18.44 during the quarterfinal round earlier in the day. Sanya Richards also ran on day three of the World Championships and secured a spot in the 400m final. Richards clocked a 50.21 to win the third of three heats and advance to Tuesday's 1:35 p.m. Central final. The World Championships continue through Aug. 23 with Texas Exes Marshevet Hooker and Richards still to compete.
