Anderson advances through first round at World Junior Championships
BEIJING -- Rising sophomore Alex Anderson (Chicago, Ill.) cruised through the opening round of the 100-meter dash at the 11th IAAF World Track and Field Junior Championships in Beijing, China on Tuesday, leading all qualifiers in eight heats, with a time of 11.34.
With the top advancing time, the U.S. junior team captain moves on to the semifinals, scheduled for 5:40 p.m. (4:40 a.m. Central) on August 15, a full day before the final round at 6:50 p.m. (5:50 a.m. Central) on August 16.
Entering the race, Anderson's seed time of 11.12 was the fastest among all junior competitors. She posted the mark in winning the event at the 2006 USA Junior 100m Championship in Indianapolis, Ind., on June 22.
