July 29, 2010
NEW ORLEANS -- The University of Texas Women's Track and Field team placed junior Chantel Malone and sophomore Mia Behm on the 2010 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Associate (USTFCCCA) 2010 Division I All-Academic team, the organization announced. Malone earned her second-straight All-Academic recognition with a 3.68 GPA in Kinesiology/Pre-Med studies. The junior recently capped off her most successful season at UT, placing seventh in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Championship and recording the second best indoor long jump in UT history (21-4.25, 6.55m) and the sixth best outdoor leap (21-6.25, 6.56m). Behm also garnered her second consecutive honor after posting a cumulative GPA of 3.3693 in Liberal Arts. The sophomore advanced to her first NCAA Outdoor Championship during the 2010 season and ran the fastest 5,000m by a Longhorn since 1988 with her PR of 16:00.00 at the Stanford Invite. The pair also earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors earlier in the year and Behm was named to the USTFCCCA Cross Country Division I All-Academic team. The USTFCCCA honors Division I student-athletes for their athletic and academic achievements in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships (including preliminary rounds) in their respective event.
