Women's Track and Field places eight on USTFCCCA All-Academic Team
July 13, 2009 NEW ORLEANS -- Eight women's track and field student-athletes, six of whom are freshmen, have been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2009 Division I All-Academic team. The Longhorns academic selections include three All-Americans and seven All-Big 12 performers. Sophomore Chantel Malone led the group with a 3.68 GPA in Kinesiology and top five finishes in the long jump at the both the indoor and outdoor Big 12 Championships. Joining her as the only UT upperclassmen to be recognized, was senior Kelly Heinbaugh who posted a 3.28 GPA in Kinesiology during her final semester on the Forty Acres. Both Heinbaugh and Malone were also named to the 2009 Academic All-Big 12 First Team. Freshmen Mia Behm (3.34 GPA, Liberal Arts), Victoria Lucas (3.30 GPA, Liberal Arts), Judy Nwosu (3.5 GPA, Kinesiology), Stacey-Ann Smith (3.57 GPA, Liberal Arts), LaKeidra Stewart (3.33 GPA, Education) and Amanda Van Dyke (3.42 GPA, Education) all received their first USTFCCCA All-Academic honor. The USTFCCCA honors Division I individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
