Destinee Hooker takes third in high jump at USA Outdoor Championships
INDIANAPOLIS -- University of Texas freshman Destinee Hooker (San Antonio, Texas) scored a third-place finish in the high jump Saturday at the 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Carroll Stadium. Hooker, the 2006 NCAA outdoor high jump champion, took third with a clearance of 6-1 1/4 (1.86m). She was unable to clear three attempts at 6-2 1/2 (1.89m). Chaunte Howard took the event with a meet-record clearance of 6-7. Freshman Alex Anderson (Chicago, Ill.) and senior LaTashia Kerr (Houston, Texas) advanced to Sunday's 200-meter semifinals by posting qualifying times in Saturday's opening round. Anderson timed at 23.31, while Kerr clocked 23.46. The semifinals are scheduled for Sunday at 1:20 p.m. CDT. Saturday proved to be a successful day for a trio of Texas Exes. Sanya Richards broke her meet record to capture the 400 meters in 49.27, while Moushami Robinson took fourth in 51.13. Marshevet Hooker, competing in her first meet since the 2006 NCAA Midwest Regional Championships last month in Austin, posted an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 20-10 (6.35m). ESPN2 will air highlights of the 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. CDT.
