NCAA Champion Hooker earns spot on U.S. roster

INDIANAPOLIS -- Two-time NCAA Champion Destinee Hooker became the first current Longhorn to earn a spot on the 2007 U.S. team roster for the World Championships.

Hooker cleared 6-1 1/4 to place in the top three in the high jump at the 2007 AT&T U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, June 23, at the Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium.

Hooker opened the afternoon with three first-bar clearances. The four-time All-American joins 2007 World Championship high jump qualifiers Amy Acuff and Sharon Day (Cal Poly SLO) as the two finished first and second, each registering a mark of 6-2 1/4 (1.89m).

Texas shot putter Michelle Carter will close out the meet for the women's track and field team as she steps into the shot put circle on Sunday, June 24, at 11:45 a.m. CT. Tomorrow's action will air live on NBC from noon until 2 p.m. CT.
