Hooker named Mondo South Central District Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Year

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas sophomore sprinter Marshevet Hooker (San Antonio, Texas) was named the Mondo South Central District Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Year, the United States Track Coaches Association announced on Thursday. This honor comes on the heels of Hooker being named the Big 12 Women's Outdoor Track & Field Performer of the Year.

Hooker secured three individual Big 12 titles and anchored the 4x100-meter relay to its ninth-consecutive conference crown at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships on May 15. In addition to her championship in the long jump, she won the 100 meters with the nation's fastest time and a personal best of 11.12. She went on to win the 200 meters, finishing in 22.80, after setting a personal best of 22.73 during the prelims. She is now ranked first in the 100 meters, second in the 200 meters and second in the long jump on the national list. Hooker's performances earned her high-point scorer honors with 32.5 points, breaking the record for most points scored at an indoor or outdoor Big 12 championship. The previous record of 28.5 points was set by UT's Angie Vaughn in 1998.

The Longhorns are preparing for the NCAA Midwest Regional in Norman, Okla. on May 27-28. Hooker will be competing in the 100 meters and the long jump and will anchor the nation's top-ranked 4x100-meter relay team.
