Big 12 Championship Diary: Jessica Doyle
May 14, 2011
Hey Longhorn Fans, We just wrapped up our second day in Norman, Oklahoma at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Today we just had one competitor in Laleh Mojtabaeezamani, so the rest of us are getting really excited about competing in our events over the next two days. We arrived in Norman yesterday after taking a six-hour bus ride up Interstate 35. Typically we fly when we travel but decided to bus this trip since it was such a short one. The bus that we were on was also awesome because it had cable, electric outlets for all of our laptops and super comfortable chairs, much better than airplane seats! After we arrived in Oklahoma we headed to the track for a quick shake out and stretch before heading to team dinner. The team this year is so close so any time that we can all get together at something like a team dinner is always a really fun time. Today was the official first day of the meet and with our one event at 8:30 p.m. tonight, we spent the majority of the day resting and taking it easy at the hotel. We did get a quick warm-up/shake out session around 2 but for the most part, we all want to rest our bodies up so we are all ready to go when it's time for our event. We headed to another dinner this evening before heading to the track to cheer on Laleh. Everyone is in a really good mood on this trip. The camaraderie is really evident and even since indoor I think as a team we have become a lot closer. Having been here now for three years, this is honestly the closets the team has been since I was a freshman and I think it will reflect in our results. I'm really excited about the team that we have and feel so lucky to be able to compete for them and the University of Texas this week. As a team, we know we could do something really special this weekend if we all do what we're capable of so it should be an exciting couple of days. Time to rest up, thanks for all of your support!
