Big 12 Championships diary: Lauren Salisbury
May 14, 2010
Hey Longhorn fans, Well we've made it to Columbia, Mo., for the 2010 Big 12 Outdoor Championships and the whole team is really excited to be here. Once we got to Missouri yesterday we got into the hotel and then headed straight to practice. The distance group went to a park across from the track and got our workout in and were able to shake out our legs from the long day of travel. Then we had a team dinner at Olive Garden which was a really good. I got to sit by my buddy Jordyn Brown which was entertaining. I actually sat with a lot of the throwers which was great because since they practice in a different place than I do, I don't really get to talk to them all that much. It was a very fun night, very team-esque. This morning at 7:30 a.m., Mia [Behm], Betzy [Jimenez] and I went to the track to watch Allison Mendez and Laleh Mojtabaeezamani run in the 10,000m. Both of the girls ran really great and Laleh finished eighth, picking up a point for the team! After the early morning race, we came back to the hotel and every got some rest. Since I'm a senior and on the verge of graduation/job searching, I studied. We had a really good team meeting before we headed to our light practice this afternoon. Coach Bev really stressed the importance of team and going into a battle in a sense. If we come together, no one can break us apart, which is something the team has been feeling all week so it got us fired up to get going. At practice today we had a chance to see the track. The curves are pretty long and the straightaways are pretty short, so it should set up a good finish. With this being my last Big 12 Championships, I'm really excited to go out and leave everything on the track for my team. Dealing with injury this year, I didn't even know if I was going to make it this far but I feel like being able to compete is just such a blessing to me. I know during the race when I get to that last 150 or 200, it's all about what's in my heart and I trust my teammates to do the same thing. We're all here for the same goal and it is fun to be here as a senior and watch it all come together. I've seen all the work we've put it and seen people develop and grow so it will be fun to watch.
Tomorrow everything really gets going and I think we're all on a mission to do Texas proud. We know we have to trust ourselves, our coaches and our teammates. But the goal is set so we're ready to get out on the track tomorrow. Well, that's all for now, thanks for the support and Hook'em Horns! Lauren |
