Women's Track and Field earn five Academic All-Big 12 honors
DALLAS -- Eleven Texas track and field athletes earned Academic All-Big 12 honors, announced the conference office on Tuesday. Six members of the men's team were honored, while five were recognized from the women's team. Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, first team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. Five of the men's six honorees were named to the first team led by national champion and three-time All-Big 12 performer sophomore Donovan Kilmartin (Eagle, Idaho). Other first team members include senior Matt Caterisano (Plano, Texas), juniors Jeff Cutrer (Nederland, Texas) and Andrew Middleton (College Station, Texas) and sophomore Brandon McFarling (College Station, Texas). Junior Joe Thorne (Chamblee, Ga.) was named to the second team. Of the women's five selections, four were named to the first team. Junior LaTashia Kerr (Houston, Texas) and sophomores Carlee Clark (Bozeman, Mont.), Amber Reber (O'Fallon, Ill.) and Mallory Rodgers (Hamlin, Texas) earned first-team honors, while junior Sheretta Jones (Houston, Texas) was named to the second team. In total, 285 student-athletes were recognized by the conference. To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his/her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation also are eligible.
