Destinee Hooker named Big 12 Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week

DALLAS -- University of Texas freshman Destinee Hooker (San Antonio, Texas) earned Big 12 Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors Tuesday, as announced by the conference.

Hooker set a new personal best in the high jump on Friday, April 28 to win the event at the 112th Penn Relays Carnival. She cleared 6-2 to take top honors and surpass her personal best by one-half of an inch. Hooker became UT's first Penn Relays high jump champion since 1999, when former NCAA champion Erin Aldrich cleared 6-1/2. She now ranks second on UT's list of top high jumpers behind Aldrich.

Hooker also earned Big 12 Athlete of the Week honors during the indoor season after leaping 6-3/4 in her collegiate debut. She is Texas' third Big 12 Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week this season. Her sister, junior Marshevet Hooker (San Antonio, Texas), took Big 12 weekly honors on April 11, and senior Ychlindria Spears (Luling, Texas) earned similar honors on April 25.
