Women's Track and Field preview: Texas Twilight
AUSTIN, Texas -- After turning in a solid road performance last weekend at the North Texas Spring Classic, No. 1 Texas returns to Mike A. Myers Stadium this weekend for the Texas Twilight meet. The event begins Saturday, April 22 at 2 p.m. CDT with the men's hammer throw and women's javelin throw and continues through the evening. The meet ends at 8:20 p.m. with the running of the men's and women's 4x400-meter relays. Texas will welcome teams from Texas-San Antonio, Texas-Pan American, Texas State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Oklahoma. Live results will be available at TexasSports.com via deltatiming.com. Admission is free. Texas returns to its home track after a successful outing last weekend at the North Texas Spring Classic in Denton. Junior Michelle Carter (Ovilla, Texas) captured the shot put and the discus, registering a personal best in the latter event. Freshman Larkin Geyer (Austin, Texas) claimed the 3000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Ashley Laughlin (Marble Falls, Texas) captured the pole vault, and senior Ychlindria Spears (Luling, Texas) took the long jump. The defending NCAA women's indoor and outdoor track and field champion, Texas sits atop the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association) and Trackwire.com rankings.
