Hooker named USTCA Athlete of the Week

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Sophomore Marshevet Hooker (San Antonio, Texas) was named the United State Track Coaches Association Athlete of the Week, announced the organization on Tuesday, April 12. Hooker earned the honor after being named the Most Outstanding Female Performer at the Texas Relays on Saturday, April 9.

Hooker's outstanding weekend began on Thursday, April 7 with a victory in the long jump after posting a mark of 21-10 (6.65m), which is the second-longest mark achieved this collegiate season and just a quarter of an inch off Texas' school record. On Friday, she qualified for the finals in the 100 meters with a time of 11.44 and helped the 4x100 and 4x200-meter relays reach the finals by anchoring both squads.

The final day of action saw Hooker finish second in the 100 meters with a wind-assisted (5.7) time of 11.04 seconds. She also anchored Texas to victories in the 4x100 and 4x200-meter relays with clockings of 43.25 and 1:31.97. The time in the 4x100 was the fastest recorded so far this collegiate season. Hooker is now qualified for the Midwest Regional Championships, May 27-28, in the 100 and 400 meters, 4x100-meter relay and long jump.

The Texas women will next be in action on Saturday, April 23 at the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco, Texas.
