Stewardsons finish in top four on day one of Victor Lopez Bayou Classic
HOUSTON -- Senior Lige Stewardson finished won the 10,000-meter run on day one (March 30) at the 2007 Victor Lopez Bayou Classic at the Rice Track and Soccer Stadium.
Lige Stewardson (Detroit, Texas) was the top finisher in the longest distance race of the evening, clocking 40 minutes, 22.55 seconds. Twin sister Landra Stewardson also boasted a top five showing, placing fourth in the 5,000-meter run in 17:32.30.
In the 1,500-meter run, junior Mariya Townswick (Briarcliff, Texas) finished 12th in 4:52.07. Freshman Stefanie Langehennig (Hereford, Texas) was 22nd in 5:06.99.
Rounding out the list of competitors was senior Amber Reber (O'Fallon, Ill.) who earned sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:08.51.
The two-day meet concludes on Saturday, March 31. Five of eight Longhorns' NCAA Midwest Region qualifiers are scheduled to compete.
