AUSTIN, Texas -- A total of 20 University of Texas spring sports competitions will be televised nationally this spring on three different TV networks - ESPN and its affiliates ESPN2 and ESPNU, FSN (FOX Sports Net) and College Sports Television (CSTV), as announced on Thursday.
Five different Texas spring sports will have national TV coverage of their competitions - baseball, softball, women's track & field, men's track & field and men's tennis).
Texas teams will appear on ESPN, Inc. a total of 12 times - with four ESPN baseball telecasts, two ESPN2 baseball telecasts, one ESPN2 softball telecast, four ESPNU baseball games and one ESPNU men's/women's track & field combined event. The track telecast will be on a tape-delay basis, as ESPNU will broadcast the final day (April 9) of the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays from UT's Mike A. Myers Stadium on its network from 2:30-4 p.m. (Central) on Saturday, April 16.
The Longhorn baseball team's 10 telecasts on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU begin with the network carrying live all three games of the Texas-Nebraska Big 12 Conference series on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 8-10, from Hawks Field at Haymarket Park in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Friday game is on ESPNU and airs live at 6:30 p.m. (Central). The Saturday and Sunday games are live telecasts on ESPN and begin at 1 p.m. (April 9) and 1:30 p.m. (April 10).
Two more UT baseball games are scheduled for an ESPN broadcast - against Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas on Sunday, May 8 (noon) and against Texas A&M in Austin on Sunday, May 22 (noon) from Disch-Falk Field. If the NBA playoffs are continuing on May 8th, the Texas-Kansas game will be tape-delayed and shown at 6 p.m. Central on ESPN2; if there is no seventh game of the NBA playoffs, the Texas-Kansas game will be telecast live as planned.
The baseball team appears on ESPN2 twice (vs. Oklahoma in Austin, Sunday, April 17, noon; vs. Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Sunday, April 24, noon). Additionally, Augie Garrido's Longhorns have three more games on ESPNU in addition to the Nebraska game on April 8th (see schedule in this release).
Connie Clark's softball squad will have its Big 12 Conference game against Iowa State on Sunday, April 24 telecast live on ESPN2. That Big 12 game starts at 3 p.m. from Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin.
Turning to FSN, the Longhorn baseball team will appear on the national FOX Sports network twice (both live telecasts) - on Saturday, April 16 when the Longhorns face Oklahoma in Austin (6 p.m. Central) and again on Saturday, May 21 when Texas A&M comes to Austin for a 6 p.m. Big 12 contest.
CSTV has aired and will air competitions from Texas baseball, softball and men's tennis. All but the men's tennis will be live telecasts. The Texas softball squad has three Big 12 Conference games on CSTV - at Nebraska (Saturday, April 3, noon, Lincoln, Neb.); versus Oklahoma in back-to-back Big 12 battles in Austin (Saturday, April 9, noon and Sunday, April 10 at 1 p.m.).
The UT baseball team faced Baylor on CSTV (on March 20 from Waco) and again plays on CSTV on Saturday, April 20 against non-conference rival Rice in Houston (7 p.m. Central). On Saturday, April 13, CSTV will telecast on a tape-delayed basis the Texas-Baylor men's tennis match from April 13th in Austin; that match will air on April 13th from 3-4:30 p.m.
