AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas women's track and field team will host the Texas Invitational on Saturday, March 24 at the Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium. The event is free and open to the public.

The meet begins at 11 a.m. CT with the women's hammer throw and the men's javelin. The running events start with the 2,000-meter steeplechase at 1:30 p.m. CT.

Joining Texas on the track will be Angelo State, South Florida, Texas State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UT-Pan American, UT-San Antonio (women only).

Heat sheets will be available prior to the meet and final results will be posted online.

The women spent spring break competing at the UNLV Invitational. Two track records were broken and eight Longhorns left with NCAA Region qualifying marks. Sophomore All-American high jumper Destinee Hooker (San Antonio, Texas) set the track record in tying her personal best height and junior pole vaulter Ashley Laughlin (Marble Falls, Texas) equaled the region mark and shattered the eight-year-old track record of 3.25-meters. All-Americans seniors Michelle Carter (Ovilla, Texas) and Chauntae Bayne (Saginaw, Texas) and sophomore Alexandria Anderson (Chicago, Ill.) met the region standard as did newcomer Jordyn Brown (Mesquite, Texas). The 4x100-meter relay also met the NCAA region mark.
