Track and Field preview: UNLV Invitational
AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas women's track and field team has closed the chapter on the 2007 indoor season and open the outdoor portion of the schedule with the UNLV Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev., on Saturday, March 17 at the UNLV Myron Partridge Stadium/Sheila Tarr-Smith Field. The field events begin at 10 a.m. CT while the running events are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. CT. Joining the Longhorns in the team competition are USC, Cal State Dominguez Hills, and Southern Utah. The Longhorns are coming off a successful outdoor season, winning the 2006 Big 12 and NCAA Midwest Region Championship trophies. Three returning All-Americans from that team -- sophomore sprinter Alexandria Anderson, senior thrower Michelle Carter, and sophomore high jumper Destinee Hooker -- lead UT into the outdoor season. Texas wrapped up the indoor campaign with its fifth consecutive top 10 national team finish. Anderson led the Longhorns with three All-American awards (60-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 4x400-meter relay). Fellow sprinter Bayne also earned multiple All-American nods, finishing in the top eight in two events (200-meter, 4x400-meter relay). Carter and Hooker earned one each in the shot put and high jump, respectively. Sophomore Janine Davis and junior Jasmine Lee rounded out the two legs of the All-American 1,600-meter relay.
