Women's Track and Field competes at Powered by Tyson Invitational as a part of Visa Championship Series

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Sophomore Marshevet Hooker (San Antonio, Texas) finished third in the 200 meters (23.93) at the Powered by Tyson Invitational on Friday, Feb. 11 at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas. The Tyson is a part of the Visa Championship Series, which is a series of USA Track & Field (USATF) competitions featuring the very best track & field athletes from Team USA.

Hooker, competing in only her second 200-meter race of the season, finished behind Olympian DeeDee Trotter (23.19) and Laverne Jones (23.83). She also competed in the 60 meters, finishing eighth with a provisional-qualifying time of 7.42.

The Texas 4x400-meter relay team made up of Sheretta Jones (Houston, Texas), Melaine Walker (Kingston, Jamaica), LaTashia Kerr (Houston, Texas) and Jerrika Chapple (Lancaster, Texas) finished fourth with a provisional-qualifying time of 3:37.36. Miami won the race with a 3:32.59.

Both the Texas men's and women's track and field teams will be in action on Saturday, Feb. 12 as they take part in the collegiate version of the Tyson Invitational. Action will begin at 9 a.m. (Central) with the women's distance medley relay.
