Laughlin breaks school pole vault record on first day of Tyson Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas -- For the third consecutive season, junior pole vaulter Ashley Laughlin (Marble Falls, Texas) has done something that is nearly impossible.

The third-year Longhorns vaulter broke a UT school record, this time setting the Texas indoor best on the first day of the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. She cleared a pole vault height of 12-6.75 (3.83m), just a half inch higher than the UT school record mark (12-6.25) she set at last year's Tyson Invitational.

Senior transfer Chauntae Bayne (Saginaw, Texas) moved up in the UT school-record top 10 list and improved her provisional qualifying time with a season-best 7.33 (fifth-place) in the finals. She entered the finals with the sixth fastest advancing time in the 60-meter preliminary race to earn a spot in the finals with a mark of 7.41.

Sophomore Alexandria Anderson (Chicago, Ill.) just missed the 60-meter finals in the college section as she clocked 7.43 for the ninth speediest time out of 51 runners. Anderson also competed in the long jump championship section, placing eighth with a season-best distance of 19-7.5 (5.98m) and ran 7.50 in the invitational section of the 60-meter.

Texas ex Marshevet Hooker (San Antonio, Texas) led all 60-meter runners in the invitational section, running 7.26 in her first year as a professional for adidas.

Freshman Betzy Jimenez (Hereford, Texas) ran well in her first true test of competition on the collegiate track level, placing seventh in the mile run in 4:54.96.

Fellow rookie harrier Asia Myrland (Verona, Wis.) placed in the top five in the 5000-meter run with a mark of 17:17.89.

Other finishes: Sophomore Kira Robinson (Denver, Colo.) ran 7.82 in the 60-meter dash and 8.67 in the short hurdles (60-meter)... Junior Jasmine Lee (Norwalk, Calif.) had the 12th-fastest time (54.88) among the 400-meter field. Newcomer Devon Williams (Parkville, Md.) ran 57.45 in her 400 collegiate debut while redshirt freshman Angel Williams (Clarendon, Texas) clocked 58.01. Sophomore Britney Orville (Houston, Texas) sped to a 58.39-finish in the quarter-mile... Freshman Lauren Salisbury (Pflugerville, Texas) ran 5:05.66 in the college section of the mile run. Sophomore Larkin Geyer (Austin, Texas) ran 5:06.70.
