Tyson Invitational Meet Info Meet Preview: Tyson Invitational Meet Preview: Husky Classic AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 14 Texas Women’s Track & Field team continues the 2013 indoor season and will split its squad to compete in the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., this Friday and Saturday. Collectively, the Longhorns will face competition from 17 of the top 25 teams in the nation as ranked by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). UT will send its sprinters, jumpers and a pair of 4x400-meter relay teams to its second of three meets at the Randal Tyson Track Center this season. They will battle 10 other squads ranked in the top 25, including five of the top 10 in No. 1 Kansas, No. 3 LSU, No. 4 Arkansas, No. 5 Oregon and No. 9 Central Florida. Competing for UT in Fayetteville will be seniors Natasha Masterson, Kendra Chambers, Alicia Peterson and Chalonda Goodman; juniors A’Lexus Brannon, Shanay Briscoe, Danielle Dowie, Briana Nelson and Christy Udoh; sophomores Kaitlin Petrillose, Chamique Francis and Morgan Snow; and freshmen Bernice Bamgbade, Kiersten Duncan, Melissa Gonzalez and Courtney Okolo. Texas will send its distance runners to the Husky Classic where they will take on competition from Kansas, Arkansas, Oregon, host No. 8 Washington, No. 10 Georgia, No. 12 California, No. 13 Arizona, No. 14 Dartmouth, No. 16 Stanford and No. 17 Arizona State. Senior Mia Behm, juniors Marielle Hall, Sara Sutherland, Brittany Marches and Katie Hoaldridge, sophomores Megan Siebert and Jessica Harper and redshirt freshman Connor Ward will race for the Longhorns in Seattle. Last time out … The Longhorns posted 11 top-five finishes in 17 scored events en route to a third-place team finish at the Arkansas Razorback Team Invitational Jan. 25-26. The meet, laden with national top-25 talent, marked the first of three in which UT will compete at the Randal Tyson Track Center during the 2013 indoor season. Texas picked up strong performances in the field events with a trio of second-place finishers, including Shanay Briscoe (high jump, indoor career-best 6-2/1.88m), Natasha Masterson (pole vault, 13-2.25/4.02m) and A’Lexus Brannon (long jump, 20-0.5/6.11m) and also finished second in the 4x400-meter relay. Mile relay leading the way … The Longhorn quartet of senior Kendra Chambers, junior Briana Nelson, sophomore Christy Udoh and freshman Courtney Okolo posted the sixth-fastest 4x400m relay time in school history (3:31.69) on Jan. 26 at the Razorback Invitational. The team finished second, just one-hundredth of a second behind first-place Florida, with both Nelson and Okolo recording sub-52.00 splits. National leaders … Four of the Longhorns’ marks through their first three meets of the indoor season rank top-10 nationally in their respective events
