Hooker takes third at 100th Millrose Games

NEW YORK -- Sophomore Destinee Hooker (San Antonio, Texas) matched the automatic standard for the second consecutive meet, clearing 6-00.75 (1.84m) in taking third among a field of professionals in the John Thomas High Jump at the 100th Millrose Games on Friday, Feb. 2.

Hooker tied former North Carolina star Sheena Gordon in Friday's competition in clearing the same bar but ended up in third after she had one more miss than the Tar Heel. The National Champion automatically qualified in the opening meet of the year -- the Leonard Hilton Memorial.

Sprinters senior Chauntae Bayne (Saginaw, Texas) and sophomore Alexandria Anderson (Chicago, Ill.) finished 2-3 in the 60-meter, clocking 7.36 and 7.42. Bayne's time is the 10th fastest in the nation while Anderson's mark is four-hundredths of a second off her season-best mark run at the Leonard Hilton Memorial.

A small group competed at the Houston Indoor Classic. Junior pole vaulters Ashley Laughlin (Marble Falls, Texas) and Anne Phillips (Fort Worth, Texas) both finished in the top five. Laughlin was second, clearing the bar at 12-5.5 (3.80m) while Phillips was fifth, posting a height of 11-5.75 (3.50m), respectively.
