Jan. 16, 2013
IRVING, Texas – Texas sprinter Danielle Dowie has been named Big 12 Female Athlete of the Week for competitions Jan. 11-13, the conference announced Wednesday. It is the first league honor for the junior. Dowie recorded a pair of individual victories in the 200-meter (23.75) and 400-meter (53.95) at last weekend’s Crimson Tide Indoor Opener in Birmingham, Ala., posting indoor personal bests in both events. She owns the top 400m time in the nation as the only competitor to have posted a sub-54.00 mark thus far in the 2013 season. The junior’s 200m time ranks seventh nationally. Dowie also ran the second leg and recorded the fastest split for the Longhorns’ first-place finishing 4x400-meter relay, which also owns the top mark in the event nationally (3:38.22). Texas will travel to Houston on Friday, Jan. 18, to compete in the Leonard Hilton Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston.
