AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 15 Texas Women's Track and Field team opens the 2010 indoor season at both the Leonard Hilton Memorial hosted by the University of Houston (Friday, Jan. 15) and the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station (Saturday, Jan. 16).

2010 Indoor Preview
The Longhorns start the season ranked No. 15 in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason poll. Texas returns All-Americans Jordyn Brown, Judy Nwosu, Chantel Malone and Angele Cooper. Brown enters the indoor season with an indoor personal-best shot put 55-3.5 (16.85m) that earned her fourth place at the 2009 NCAA Indoor Championship. Nwosu and Cooper return from Texas¡¯ sixth-place NCAA Indoor 4x400m relay while Malone brings All-Big 12 honors in the long jump and triple jump back for UT.

The Longhorns also welcome strong group of freshmen that should provide added depth in the sprints. Newcomer Chalonda Goodman (Newnan, Ga.) is the reigning U.S. Junior Outdoor National Champion and Pan American Junior Champion in the 100m and 200m and has top times of 11.22 and 22.94, respectively. Alicia Peterson¡¯s (Sherman, Texas) 11.62 100m, 24.07 200m and 54.22 400m will also add to Texas¡¯ talented sprinting corps while Melissa Mahoney, Jenny Swan and Katie Hoaldridge will compete in Texas¡¯ long distance group.

Hooker to forgo final track and field season
University of Texas All-American high jumper Destinee Hooker (San Antonio, Texas) has elected to forgo her final season of track and field eligibility to pursue a professional volleyball career. Hooker, a two-sport All-American on the Forty Acres, leaves Texas as one of the most decorated athletes in Longhorn history. On the track, Hooker claimed four individual national titles, six All-America honors and six individual Big 12 titles. She also set school and NCAA records in the indoor high jump (6-6, 1.98m) and tied the UT outdoor high jump record (6-4.75/1.95m).
