Women's Track and Field begins 2006 indoor season in Houston
AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas women's track and field squad will begin 2006 regular-season competition Saturday at the Houston Indoor Opener on the University of Houston campus. The non-scored event will begin at 9 a.m. CST at the Yeoman Field House. The Longhorns return all three indoor All-Americans from the 2005 squad in junior shot putter Michelle Carter (Ovilla, Texas), junior sprinter/jumper Marshevet Hooker (San Antonio, Texas) and senior hurdler Melaine Walker (Kingston, Jamaica). Hooker and Carter also collected Big 12 indoor titles in 2005. In addition, the Big 12 4X400-meter relay champion quartet of seniors Sheretta Jones (Houston, Texas) and LaTashia Kerr (Houston, Texas), junior Jerrika Chapple (Lancaster, Texas) and Walker returns. The Yeoman Field House track is a flat, six-lane 200-meter oval with eight lanes in the straightaway.
