Women's Track & Field debuts at No. 14 in USTFCCCA preseason poll

NEW ORLEANS - The Texas Women's Track & Field team has been ranked 14th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason NCAA Division I national poll, the association announced today. The Longhorns also placed 11 in the top-34 event-by-event rankings, including their fourth-ranked 4x400-meter relay team. Also earning top-10 positions were junior Shanay Briscoe in high jump (seventh) and junior Sara Sutherland, who is eighth in the 5,000-meter. Texas had a pair of runners crack the top-20 national rankings in the 400-meter in junior Briana Nelson (12th) and senior Alicia Peterson (17th). Also earning a top-20 ranking were junior Christy Udoh in the 200-meter (11th), junior A'Lexus Brannon in long jump (12th) and sophomore Morgan Snow in the 60-meter hurdles (20th). Seniors Chalonda Goodman (200m) and Kendra Chambers (400m) each stand at 23rd in their respective events, while Sutherland also ranks 30th in the 3,000-meter. The USTFCCCA preseason rankings are computer projections based largely on the top returners for each school and early performances from the 2013 season. The first regular poll will be released Tuesday, Jan. 22.
