Hall, Sutherland propel No. 22 Women's Cross Country to NCAA Championships berth
Nov. 9, 2012 FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Juniors Marielle Hall and Sara Sutherland crossed the finish line 1-2 to guide the No. 22 Texas Women's Cross Country team to a second-place team finish at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships on Friday morning at Agri Park. In the process, the Longhorns earned their third-straight trip to the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Hall posted a meet-best 6,000-meter mark of 20:30.7 with Sutherland close behind in 20:35.3, marking the first time a Longhorn has won the individual title at the regional meet. It was also the first time individuals from the same team claimed the top two spots at the meet since 2005. Senior Laleh Mojtabaeezamani (21:24.5) and junior Megan Siebert (21:30.7) finished back-to-back in 13th and 14th with junior Brittany Marches crossing 38th (22:20.8) to round out scoring for Texas. Freshman Kendall Howen (41st, 22:22.2) and junior Jessica Harper (46th, 22:28.7) also competed Friday for UT. Hall, Sutherland, Mojtabaeezamani and Siebert each earned All-South Central Region accolades for their races. The honor was the third for Hall, Sutherland and Mojtabaeezamani while Siebert picked up her second. The Longhorns, ranked No. 2 in the South Central Region throughout the 2012 season, earned 68 team points, second to the Arkansas Razorbacks' 44. Completing the top five were Texas A&M (140 points), SMU (178 points) and UTSA (187 points). The 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships will take place Saturday, Nov. 17 in Louisville, Ky. Hosted by the University of Louisville, the women's 6,000-meter and men's 10,000-meter races will be run at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park on the same course as was used for the Pre-Nationals invitational earlier in the season, where the Longhorn women finished fifth.
