WALNUT, Calif. – Brittany Marches broke the school record in the 3,000m steeplechase as she was one of three Texas Women’s Track & Field athletes who ran on Thursday during the first day of the Mt. SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif.
Marches, a redshirt freshman from Atascocita, Texas, ran a 10:40.45 in the 3,000m steeplechase to break the school record by 13 seconds. The previous record was 10:53.18 by Dawn Domaschk in 2003. The time gave Marches a ninth-place finish as she competed in section B of the event. She showed a knack for the event when she won it at Texas Relays three weeks ago, her first time ever competing in it.
In the 10,000m run Olympic Development Elite division, senior Laleh Mojtabaezamani ran a personal best 35:02.02 for ninth overall. It was her first time running the event this outdoor season.
Julie Amthor was the other Longhorn in action as she ran the 1,500m. She won the event last weekend at the Texas Invitational but this time she was one of 124 runners in the event and came away with a time of 4:36.30 for 93rd.
Texas has four more runners scheduled to compete on Friday. Katie Hoaldridge will run in section five of the 800m run. Marielle Hall and Sara Sutherland will be in the first section of the 5,000m run while Jessica Harper will also run the 5,000m later in the evening.
