Two athletes compete on first day of Houston Invitational

HOUSTON, Texas -- Two Texas Women's Track & Field athletes competed on the first day of the Houston Invitational Friday at the Yeoman Field House in Houston. In the pentathlon, senior Beverly Owoyele finished third overall with 3,462 points in her first pentathlon of the year. Her top finish among the five events was second place in the high jump with a mark of 1.71m (5-07.25). Senior Jessica Doyle competed in the pole vault, clearing a season-best 3.60m (11-09.75) for seventh place. It was her second meet of the season. The meet will finish up on Saturday with the majority of the events. The field events start at 9 a.m. with the weight throw and wrap up at 3:30 p.m. with the triple jump. The running events begin at 11 a.m. with the prelims of the 60m hurdles and end with the 4x400m relay at 4:25 p.m.
