Women's Tennis signs Mello to National Letter of Intent
AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas head women's tennis coach Patty Fendick-McCain announced Friday the signing of California prep standout Maggie Mello to a National Letter of Intent for the 2007-08 academic year. Mello (Laguna Hills, Calif./Mission Viejo HS) will join the Longhorns' program in the fall of 2007. "We are absolutely thrilled with our signing of Maggie," said Fendick-McCain. "She is a gutsy, tenacious fighter. We look forward to seeing her in action as a Longhorn." Ranked as the No. 15 national prospect by TennisRecruiting.net, Mello recently captured the 2006 Interscholastic Championships-West, a tournament featuring the top junior tennis players on the west coast. One of the top junior players in talent-rich southern California, Mello was a singles finalist at the 2005 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section Championships. The 5-8 right-hander also was a singles finalist at the prestigious Easter Bowl tournament in Palm Springs, Calif.
