Marovic, Strohm advance to ITA Southwest Regional doubles quarterfinals

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- University of Texas seniors Mia Marovic (Split, Croatia) and Kendra Strohm (Tucson, Ariz.) played their way into the doubles quarterfinals Sunday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southwest Regional Championships at Texas A&M's George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.

Marovic and Strohm knocked off A&M's Nicki Mechem and Alex Jordan in Sunday's round of 16 by an 8-3 count. They will take on Baylor's Carolin Walter and Daniella Covello in the quarterfinals.

Four Longhorns were eliminated from the singles main draw after beginning the day in the round of 32. Sophomore Courtney Zauft (San Antonio, Texas) upset Baylor's 13th-seeded Covello by a 7-5, 6-4 margin before being eliminated in the round of 16 by TCU's Helena Besovic, 6-1, 6-1.

Strohm scored her second victory of the day over A&M's Mechem, eliminating the Aggie by a 6-4, 6-3 margin in round-of-32 singles play. Baylor's Zuzana Cerna knocked Strohm out of the draw with a 6-2, 6-1 round-of-16 win.

Senior Kelly Baritot (Allison Park, Pa.) suffered a 7-5, 6-2 loss to Texas-Arlington's Klara Jagosova in the round of 32, and junior Petra Dizdar was eliminated by TCU's Anna Sydorska, 6-1, 6-3, also in round-of-32 play.
