FORT WORTH, Texas -- Texas capped a successful opening day of singles play with upset victories over two seeded players Friday in the ITA Southwest Regional Championships at TCU's Friedman Tennis Center. Freshman Vanja Corovic (Belgrade, Serbia) scored her first collegiate victory by defeating seventh-seeded Ana Cetnik of host TCU by a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 margin. Corovic advances to Saturday's round of 32 where she will meet Texas A&M's Nicki Mechem. Freshman Sarah Lancaster (San Antonio, Texas) followed suit with a big victory of her own, defeating Texas A&M's sixth-seeded Anna Blagodarova, 7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-4. Lancaster will face Samantha Vander Drift of Texas Tech on Saturday. Senior Petra Dizdar (Split, Croatia) and junior Courtney Zauft (San Antonio, Texas) also added singles victories Friday. Dizdar made short work of TCU's Karine Ionesco, winning 6-0, 6-0 to set up a round-of-32 meeting with Rice's Rebecca Lin. Zauft tallied a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Angela Dangord of Louisiana-Lafayette. Zauft will take on Emilija Arnaudovska of Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday. Texas' two remaining doubles tandems stayed alive in the doubles draw. Lancaster and Zauft teamed up for an easy 8-1 victory over Sara Pesic and Daniela Novakova of Texas-Arlington, and Davison and Dizdar collected an 8-0 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Erika Iriarte and Alexandra Valarezo.
