Women's Tennis continues impressive run at ITA Southwest Regional
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The Texas women's tennis team continued its strong play at the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championships on Sunday, Oct. 17 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. Junior Kendra Strohm (Tucson, Ariz.) advanced to the quarterfinals in singles and will team with junior Katie Ruckert (Vienna, Va.) for an appearance in the doubles quarterfinals. Also advancing in doubles was the duo of sophomores Petra Dizdar (Split, Croatia) and Ristine Olson (Missoula, Mont.). In singles action, Strohm defeated Baylor's Iva Mihaylova, 6-2, 6-3, in her first match of the day, then posted a, 6-1, 6-0, victory over Lana Kouzmenko of SMU in the round of 16. Strohm will face Dorottya Magas of Tulane in Monday's quarterfinals. On the doubles side, Ruckert and Strohm recorded a decisive, 8-1, victory over Jen Chay and Jenny Langer of SMU. The Texas duo will face Zuzana Cerna and Daniela Covello of Baylor in the next round. Dizdar and Olson are set to meet Tulane's Darya and Maria Ivanov in the quarterfinals after posting an 8-6 victory over Lauren Seaman and Staten Spencer of LSU in the round of 16.
