Zauft advances at Riviera/ITA All-American Championships
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- University of Texas junior Courtney Zauft (San Antonio, Texas) recorded a pair of singles victories to draw within one win of the qualifying round Saturday at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships. Zauft dealt DePaul's Gergana Ganeva a 6-7 (6), 6-2, 6-4 defeat in the pre-qualifying round of 64 before defeating San Diego's Monica Wiesener by a 6-3, 6-2 margin in the round of 32. Zauft advances to Sunday's round of 16 where she will take on Georgia's Yvette Hyndman for the right to advance to Monday's qualifying round. Texas also advanced two doubles pairs to Sunday's pre-qualifying round of 16. Sophomore Marija Milic (Etobicoke, Ontario) and freshman Stephanie Davison (Port Orchard, Wash.) defeated San Diego's Wiesener and Sophia Vott by an 8-1 count, and senior Petra Dizdar (Split, Croatia) and freshman Sarah Lancaster (San Antonio, Texas) tallied an 8-2 victory over Washington State's Amy Toth and Ekaterina Burdila. Milic and Davison will meet Georgia's Hyndman and Monika Dancevic on Sunday, while Dizdar and Lancaster will take on Southern California's Judy DeVera and Amanda Fink.
