Ellis collects ITA top-15 preseason ranking

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas sophomore Aeriel Ellis has earned a top-15 singles ranking in the preseason rankings release distributed by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The 2010 Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year ranks No. 15 in the ITA preseason women's singles rankings after totaling a 32-14 overall record along with a 13-7 mark in dual matches a season ago. The native Californian played in all three national championship events - the ITA All-American Championships, the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships and the NCAA Championships - during her standout freshman campaign. Ellis also boasts a No. 50 ITA doubles ranking alongside UT freshman Elizabeth Begley. UT junior Krista Damico earned a No. 44 ITA preseason singles ranking on the strength of her 28-12 overall singles record as a sophomore. Damico earned an All-Big 12 singles selection last season after totaling a 15-8 record in dual matches. Texas opens fall tournament play on Friday, Sept. 17 at the Duke Invitational.
