June 18, 2010
AUSTIN, Texas -- The USTA (United States Tennis Association) has selected Texas rising sophomore Aeriel Ellis and 24 additional men's and women's tennis players to the 2010 USTA Summer Collegiate Team, an elite training program for top American collegiate tennis players administered by the USTA and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The program allows college tennis players valuable exposure to the USTA Pro Circuit in a team-oriented environment during the summer months. The players have opportunities to compete on the USTA Pro Circuit and a chance to participate in a Pro Tour transition camp. Ellis is the only player from the Big 12 Conference and the ITA Texas Region on the women's team. Ellis (Hayward, Calif.), the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year and ITA Texas Region Rookie Player of the Year, finished her freshman campaign with a 32-14 overall singles record. Ellis earned berths in the main singles draw at all three national championship events on the college tennis calendar - the ITA All-American Championships, the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships and the NCAA Championships. She helped the Longhorns reach the round of 16 at the NCAA Championships for the second time in three seasons.
