Ellis to open NCAA singles competition against Miami's Vallverdu

ATHENS, Ga. -- Texas freshman Aeriel Ellis will open play in the 64-singles draw at the NCAA Championships against Miami's eighth-seeded Laura Vallverdu Wednesday at Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Ellis and Vallverdu will square off at 2:30 p.m. Central. Ellis, the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year, sports a No. 24 ITA singles ranking and a 32-12 overall singles record. She is Texas' first freshman to compete in the NCAA singles draw since Vanja Corovic in 2007. Ellis, an All-Big 12 singles selection, was recognized as the ITA Texas Regional Rookie Player of the Year on May 12.
