Ruckert and Strohm fall in NCAA Women's Doubles First Round

ATHENS, Ga. -- Texas' tandem of juniors Katie Ruckert (Vienna, Va.) and Kendra Strohm (Tucson, Ariz.) lost a 6-2, 7-6 decision to Olga Borisova and Marianna Yuferova of VCU in the first round of the NCAA Women's Doubles Championship on Tuesday afternoon at the Henry Feild Stadium Courts on the campus of the University of Georgia. Ruckert and Strohm, ranked 28th nationally in doubles, finish the season with a 14-13 record.

Borisova and Yuferova, the No. 24-ranked doubles team in the nation, advance to the Round 16 to face North Carolina's Kendall Kline and Aniela Mojzis on Wednesday, May 25. Kline and Mojzis recorded a 7-6, 7-5 victory over Chloe Carlotti and Virginia Tomatis of Mississippi on Tuesday afternoon.

With the loss, UT's 2005 season comes to an end. The Longhorns posted a 25-6 overall dual-match record and a 10-1 mark in Big 12 play. Texas was crowned the Big 12 Tournament Champions and, most importantly, reached the finals of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1995.
