Corovic to open NCAA singles play on Wednesday
ATHENS, Ga. -- University of Texas freshman Vanja Corovic will take on Sacramento State's Katrina Zheltova in the opening round of the 64-player NCAA singles draw, as announced Tuesday by the NCAA. Corovic (Belgrade, Serbia) will meet the 111th-ranked Zheltova on Wednesday, May 23 at 1 p.m. CT at the University of Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Corovic, the 2007 Big 12 Newcomer and Freshman of the Year, totaled a 25-11 overall singles record and finished the season with a No. 24 ITA singles ranking. She added a 10-1 mark in Big 12 singles play and scored her biggest victory of the season on April 29, when knocked off Baylor's 18th-ranked Zuzana Zemenova, the 2005 NCAA singles champion, in the finals of the Big 12 Championship.
