Corovic named Big 12 Freshman and Newcomer of the Year
IRVING, Texas -- Big 12 regular season co-champion Texas collected five postseason honors on Tuesday, May 1, highlighted by Vanja Corovic's selections as the 2007 Big 12 Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. Corovic also was selected to the All-Big 12 team in singles and in doubles alongside sophomore Marija Milic. UT freshman Stephanie Davison also was named to the All-Big 12 singles team. Corovic (Belgrade, Serbia), who vaulted to a career-high No. 24 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles rankings, finished the conference season with a 10-1 league singles mark, including an 8-1 record at No. 1 singles. She was a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 singles team. Corovic holds a 24-11 overall singles record this season. She becomes UT's first Big 12 Freshman of the Year since Petra Dizdar in 2004 and Texas' first Big 12 Newcomer of the Year since Vladka Uhlirova in 2000. Corovic and Milic (Etobicoke, Ontario) earned All-Big 12 doubles honors by way of their 10-1 conference record, including a 5-1 mark at No. 1 doubles. The duo holds an 18-7 overall record this season. Davison (Port Orchard, Wash.) earned All-Big 12 singles honors by producing a 9-2 mark in conference play. She holds a 21-14 overall singles record and a 16-7 dual match record.
