Women's Tennis to meet South Florida in opening round of NCAA Championship

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas has earned an at-large bid into the 2008 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship and will take on 43rd-ranked South Florida (18-6) in the opening round of the 64-team event on Friday, May 9 in Tallahassee, Fla. The start time for that match has yet to be announced.

Host Florida State earned an at-large berth into the field of 64 and will take on Ohio Valley Conference Champion Samford, also on Friday, May 9. The winners of the two matches will meet in the NCAA round of 32 on Saturday, May 10, and the winner of that match advances to the NCAA round of 16 on Thursday, May 15 in Tulsa, Okla. 

The 19th-ranked Longhorns totaled an 18-6 regular-season mark and took second in the Big 12 Conference with a 10-1 league record. Texas reached the finals of the Big 12 Championship on Sunday, April 27 and fell to Big 12 regular season champion Baylor by a 4-1 count in College Station. The Horns feature All-Big 12 singles selections Vanja Corovic and Courtney Zauft.

South Florida earned an at-large bid after reaching the finals of the Big East Championship, where they fell to Notre Dame by a 4-1 count on April 20. The Bulls feature 72nd-ranked Janette Bejlkova. 

The 15th-ranked Seminoles of Florida State (18-7) earned an at-large bid after reaching the finals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship. The Seminoles feature 27th-ranked Katie Rybakova, 75th-ranked Lauren Macfarlane and 89th-ranked Carolin Walter. 

Samford (20-4) earned an automatic bid into the field of 64 after defeating Eastern Kentucky in the Ohio Valley Conference championship match on April 20.
