Three Longhorns named to Academic All-Big 12 Women's Tennis Team

IRVING, Texas – The Texas women’s tennis program landed three student-athletes on the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 women’s tennis team, the league announced Tuesday. Senior Carlene Leyden was named to the first team, while seniors Julia Wiegand and Maya Zein-El-Abdin earned second-team selections. Nominated by each Big 12 institution’s director of student-athlete support services, a total of 28 women’s tennis student-athletes were named to the team with 19 student-athletes earning first-team honors. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a minimum 3.20 grade-point average, with second-team members earning a minimum 3.00 grade-point average. To qualify for the team, student-athletes must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA either cumulatively or in the previous two semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled matches. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Seniors who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all criteria except percent of participation also are eligible. 2012 Academic All-Big 12 Women’s Tennis Team
