Women's Tennis blanks Missouri, 7-0
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- No. 41 Texas (12-8, 9-1) quickly clinched the doubles point and dominated singles action to post a 7-0 victory over Missouri (8-11, 3-8) Saturday afternoon at MU's Green Tennis Center. With the win over the Tigers, Texas remains on track to potentially clinch a share of the Big 12 Conference regular season title. Texas opened the match by taking the doubles point with victories at the second and third positions. Senior Ristine Olson (Missoula, Mont.) and junior Courtney Zauft (San Antonio, Texas) scored an 8-2 win over Mizzou's Erika Josbena and Amanda Pratzel at the second slot, and UT freshmen Stephanie Davison (Port Orchard, Wash.) and Jane Pringle (Bedford, South Africa) dealt the Tigers' Katelyn McKenzie and Charlotte Bellis an 8-3 defeat at third doubles. Davison extended the Longhorns' lead to 2-0 with a quick 6-1, 6-0 victory over Pratzel at second singles, and Olson tacked on another point for Texas with a 6-1, 6-1 win at fourth singles over MU's Raquel Wagner. Zauft clinched the match for Texas with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Missouri's Josbena at third singles, and freshman Vanja Corovic (Belgrade, Serbia) also finished in dominant fashion, winning by a 6-2, 6-0 count over Chrissy Svetlic at first singles. Texas finished off Missouri with a pair of wins at the fifth and sixth positions. Pringle wasted little time picking up a victory at sixth singles, winning by a 6-1, 6-1 count at the sixth slot over MU's Bellis. Freshman Sarah Lancaster (San Antonio, Texas) sealed the 7-0 victory with a 6-0, 6-4 win at fifth singles over Missouri's McKenzie. Texas completes the regular season on Sunday at Kansas State. A UT victory would ensure Texas at least a share of the Big 12 regular season title. First serve is set for 10 a.m. CT at the K-State's Washburn Tennis Facility.
