AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 17 Texas made short work of No. 59 Kansas State Sunday afternoon, as the Longhorns tallied a 5-2 victory over the Wildcats at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center. Texas improves to 13-9 and 7-1 in Big 12 play, while the Wildcats fall to 9-9 and 5-5 in conference play.
Texas opened the match by winning doubles matches at the third and first positions to capture the doubles point. Juniors Petra Dizdar (Split, Croatia) and Ristine Olson (Missoula, Mont.) scored an 8-2 win over Fernanda Da Valle and Olga Klimova at the third position before senior Mia Marovic (Split, Croatia) and sophomore Courtney Zauft (San Antonio, Texas) clinched the point with an 8-4 win at the first position over Tamar Kvaratskhelia and Maria Perevoschikova.
Marovic needed less than an hour to dispatch Kvaratskhelia at first singles, winning by a 6-0, 6-0 count to extend the Texas lead to 2-0. Dizdar added a 6-2, 6-1 win at the second slot over Perevoschikova, and Strohm collected a 6-2, 6-2 win over Katalina Kudlackova to clinch the victory at the fourth position.
UT's Kelly Baritot (Allison Park, Pa.) defaulted at the fifth position after appearing to suffer an injury, allowing Kansas State to draw within 4-1. Simosa outlasted UT's Zauft to cut the Longhorn lead to 4-2, and UT's Olson finished off the victory with a 6-3, 6-3 win at the sixth position over Klimova for the final 5-2 margin.
Texas continues its busy, season-ending stretch of four matches in eight days on Wednesday when its hosts No. 5 Baylor. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m. CDT at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
