Women's Tennis preview: Washington
AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 15 Texas (10-8) returns to the Penick-Allison Tennis Center this weekend to meet Washington (2-11) on Saturday, April 1. First serve is set for 1 p.m. CST. Texas plays its final non-conference match this weekend after totaling a 5-0 mark thus far in Big 12 play. The Longhorns' perfect league record remained in tact last weekend as UT tallied a pair of 6-1 victories at Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Seniors Kelly Baritot (Allison Park, Pa.), Mia Marovic ( Split, Croatia) and Kendra Strohm ( Tucson, Ariz.) and junior Petra Dizdar ( Split, Croatia) each collected a pair of singles victories over the weekend. Washington comes to Austin after picking up its second victory of the season, a 4-3 win over Pacific-10 Conference rival Washington State. The Huskies are led by 98 th-ranked senior Dinka Hadzic. UT coach Patty Fendick-McCain led Washington to NCAA quarterfinal appearances in 2001 and 2004 and served as the UW women's tennis coach for eight seasons before coming to Austin last summer. Texas is 0-2 against Pac-10 opponents this season. UT opened the season with a 6-1 loss at Arizona State and fell to top-ranked Stanford in the finals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Team Indoor Championships in February. Texas features three student-athletes in the ITA singles rankings in the 71st-ranked Dizdar, 79th-ranked Marovic and the 109th-ranked Strohm.
