Women's Tennis preview: Notre Dame

AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 11 Texas (8-7) will do battle against its third top-five opponent of the season Monday when the Longhorns take on No. 2 Notre Dame (14-0). First serve is set for 5:30 p.m. CST at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center. Admission is free for all UT regular season home matches.

Texas looks to rebound after dropping two of three matches during its recent road trip. The Longhorns opened the road swing with a 5-2 victory at William & Mary on Monday, March 13 but dropped ensuing matches at Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

Notre Dame comes to Austin after narrowly defeating No. 48 Texas A&M by a 4-3 count on Saturday in College Station. The Fighting Irish boast victories over top-five foes North Carolina and Duke among their 14 wins on the season.

Notre Dame's Catrina Thompson ranks 32nd in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles rankings, while Christian Thompson ranks 48th. The Thompson sisters rank fourth as a doubles team and are joined by two Irish doubles pairs in the doubles rankings. Brook Buck and Kelcy Tefft rank 39th nationally, while Lauren Connelly and Kristina Stastny come in at No. 46.

Texas counters with three student-athletes featured in the ITA singles rankings. Junior Petra Dizdar (Split, Croatia) owns the No. 57 singles ranking, while senior Mia Marovic (Split, Croatia) and sophomore Courtney Zauft come in at Nos. 71 and 125, respectively.

Texas defeated Notre Dame by a 4-3 count last season in South Bend, Ind.
