No. 6 California defeats Women's Tennis, 6-1
BERKELEY, Calif. -- No. 6 California (11-3) took the doubles point and five of six singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over No. 34 Texas (5-5) Monday afternoon at Cal's Hellman Tennis Center. The Golden Bears opened the match by sweeping doubles play to take a 1-0 lead. Texas freshman Stephanie Davison (Port Orchard, Wash.) recorded her second singles victory in as many days after topping Stanford's Lejla Hodzic on Sunday. Davison won in impressive fashion, defeating the Golden Bears' Stephanie Kusano by a 6-0, 6-3 count at the fourth position. UT freshman Vanja Corovic (Belgrade, Serbia) took Cal's Zsuzsanna Fodor to the limit before falling in a third-set tiebreaker at first singles. Texas junior Petra Dizdar (Split, Croatia) pushed Cal's fourth-ranked Susie Babos to a first-set tiebreak but relinquished the set to Babos, who went on to take the second set, 6-1. Senior Ristine Olson (Missoula, Mont.) nearly extended her match against Cal's Marion Ravelojaona to a third set before falling in a second-set tiebreak at fifth singles. Texas concludes its road trip through California on Wednesday when it travels to Los Angeles to take on No. 11 Southern California.
