No. 4 Stanford tops Women's Tennis, 5-2
PALO ALTO, Calif. -- No. 34 Texas (5-4) picked up singles wins from senior Ristine Olson and freshman Stephanie Davison, but it wasn't enough as No. 4 Stanford (11-1) delivered a 5-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Stanford's Taube Family Tennis Center.
Stanford took a pair of matches to clinch the doubles point, though the Longhorns did pick up one victory at third doubles. Sophomore Marija Milic (Etobicoke, Ontario) and freshman Vanja Corovic (Belgrade, Serbia) notched a 9-7 victory over Whitney Deason and Theresa Logar.
Olson (Missoula, Mont.) made short work of Stanford's Megan Doheny, winning by a 6-1, 6-2 count at sixth singles.
Davison (Port Orchard, Wash.), playing at sixth singles, fell behind early against the Cardinal's Lejla Hodzic, dropping the first set, 6-1. However, Davison rallied with a vengeance, taking the second set, 6-3. Davison finished off Hodzic in the third set, 6-3, to collect the second point for the Longhorns.
Stanford collected the remaining four points on the strength of straight-set victories at the first, second, third and fourth singles positions.
Texas continues its stint in the Northern California Bay Area on Monday with a contest at No. 6 California (10-3). First serve is set for 3:30 p.m. Central.
